Veteran trees

Ancient and veteran trees are incredible pieces of living history. They support a much wider range of wildlife than younger trees and there importance in the ecology of woodland and wood pasture is only starting to be appreciated.
England is fortunate to have a large number of these wonderful old trees many of which are in our parks, our nature reserves and on our commons. Looking after these trees requires specialist knowledge and skills.
Bombadil has been involved in a number of projects to implement veteran tree management programmes. Chris Long attended the Veteran Tree Management course at the Hatfield Forest National Trust site in January 2013 and also the Tree Veteranisation course at the same location in November 2013. He is also a member of the Ancient Tree Forum.
